Installation¶
Guide¶
Select one of installation methods ans follow the video instruction. If you don't know where to start, start with installation on optical port.
Make sure the subtitles of the video instruction are turned on.
Attach the device securely to the meter diode
Cut a ring (same diameter as OneMeter) from a magnetic adhesive tape (available in popular DYI stores) and stick it to the meter so as the diode is in the center.
Alternatively, stick the device directly to the meter with a strong adhesive tape.
Give the application all the required permissions
The Bluetooth is required for the active scanning and connection to OneMeter devices.
The location services (GPS) must be turned on while communicating with the device. It is required to find the nearby devices and data transfer to them (communication standard requirements).
The internet is needed to load data from the cloud or forward information from the OneMeter device.
Description¶
We can distinguish two installation approaches depending on which port of the meter is used. The device can either read data from the meter (Installation on optical port) or count power and energy consumption based on the meter LED blinking called the control output (Installation on the meter LED). Example of supported meter ports is shown below.
The device can only be installed using one of the approaches at a time!
You cannot switch ports freely afterwards. If you want to install the device on the second port, you have to uninstall it first and then install again.
Before you start¶
-
Download OneMeter mobile app onto your phone.
-
Open OneMeter mobile app.
-
Sign in with your Google/Facebook/Apple account.
-
Make sure the phone has internet access, Bluetooth and GPS location services enabled.
Caution!
GPS location services must be enabled at least while the phone is communicating with the device. It is required for valid data transfer (related to the Bluetooth Low Energy standard).
Preparation for installation¶
-
Unpack your new OneMeter. The device should wake up when exposed to light. Use your phone's flashlight if the room is too dark.
-
Observe the dimming light on the device. This state means the device is ready to be installed.
Off The device is in sleep mode. To wake it up, expose the bottom to light. Blinking green The device is preparing for the installation process. Do not remove the battery at this point. Pulsing white The device is waiting for meter communication protocol detection and installation. After one minute of inactivity, the device will return to sleep mode. Blinks red every second Critical battery condition or device error. If battery replacement does not help, please contact us. Blinking or solid blue This state should not occur. Please contact us.
Installation on optical port¶
This is suitable for the IEC 62056-21 and SML protocols.
- Prepare the device to be installed.
- Make sure you have the Bluetooth and GPS enabled as well as have internet connection.
-
Get closer to the energy meter.
If you install on an SML meter, make sure the device is perfectly placed on the port.
Similarly to control output installation, slightly move the device on the port until the LED lights green and blinks white every couple of seconds.
Wait a while until the SML protocol is detected (you will see blink once per a couple of seconds).
-
Start installation process by tapping Add a device (or similar) button in the device list view in mobile app.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions. Verify the device state during the installation.
Blinking green (stable) The device is connected to the phone. To install it on the meter, follow the instructions on the screen. Blinking green (variable) Installation process in progress. Wait. Do not remove the device from the meter. Blinking red Low battery. It must be replaced for further meter readings, installation and data synchronization. 1 or 2 red blinks An error was encountered during communication with the meter or during data transmission. Blinking/solid white or blue This state should not occur. Please contact us. -
You're done
Wait a couple of quarter hours (15 minute intervals) and check your energy profile.
Installation on the meter LED (control output)¶
This is suitable for the Blink protocol only.
In this mode, the beacon is capable of measuring live energy and power consumption. The measurement is updated on the cloud within a few seconds so you can observe the load of your local grid live, apart from the standard 15-min period. The higher the power, the more quickly you will see an effect.
- Prepare the device to be installed.
- Make sure you have the Bluetooth and GPS enabled as well as have internet connection.
- Get closer to the energy meter.
-
Locate the control output, similar to the one in the image above. Likely, it will be placed close to the number of pulses (blue color in the picture above).
What if I don't see such a value?
You can try to search for energy meter pulse constant in the documentation of your meter. In case of problems, feel free to contact us. If possible, we will prepare the list of pulse constants depending on meter model and share it with all the clients.
-
Note down the number of pulses in kWh (convert if needed).
- Stick the adhesive ring to the meter so as its LED is in the center (blue circle in the picture).
- Attach the device to the sticker.
-
Observe the pulse detection process.
You may need to slightly move the device to correctly place the light detector over the diode.
To speed up the process you can turn on any home appliance which has high power consumption for a while. When the device shines green, it is ready to be installed.
Pulsing green faster The meter communication protocol has been detected potentially. Wait a moment. 1 blink red Error in meter communication protocol detection. The device will come back to waiting for meter communication protocol detection. Blink white on solid green Meter communication protocol was detected. Every white blink is showing a confirmation of its correct placement. The device is waiting for the installation process. After one minute of inactivity, the device will return to sleep mode. If the quality of communication degrades, device goes back to dimming. Solid red Low battery. It must be replaced for further meter readings, installation and data synchronization. -
Start installation process by tapping Add a device (or similar) button in the device list view in mobile app.
- After you connect to the device, a new window will appear - input the previously noted number of pulses and continue.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions. Verify the device state during the installation.
